NBA Delegation Promises to Boost Sport Activities

JUBA - The delegation of NBA Cares based in United States of America headed by the NBA Global Ambassador Dikembe Mutombo in their five days visit were quite impressed by the talented South Sudanese youth after watching different games.    Addressing the Press Conference yesterday, NBA Global Ambassador assured his commitment to assist South Sudan in terms of boosting the sport activities and that was why they had made this historic visit in order for them to acquaint themselves on how best they could help.   “Our visit has been great as we have interacted with all the South Sudan stakeholders especially the sport federation officials and the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports,” Mutombo said.   “We will do our best to promote South Sudan basketball since South Sudan has a high character to become the “power house” for Africa games,” he added.  “South Sudan has a high profile NBA stars notably, the legend late Manut Bol and within some few days that we have spent here we have seen the determination and aspiration that young people have for making a change,” Mutombo said.   “There is a commitment from USAID and NBA to improve situations of basketball especially in terms of motivating and raising the moral of coaches who volunteer themselves to coaches without any salary,” he noted.   “The sport activities need to be incorporated in the education system because literacy is the first and sport and recreation come second,” he remarked.  The Under Secretary in the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport Peter Baptist applauded the will and determination that the delegation has expressed to boost basketball activities in South Sudan and urged them to be the mobile ambassadors for supporting sport in South Sudan.
