War Affected Appeal for Government Help

JUBA - As South Sudanese remembers the martyrs in an occasion staged last Saturday, those seriously affected by the protracted civil strife made a humble appeal for assistance to the Government of Republic of South Sudan.

Addressing the attendants, Mama Rebecca Nyandeng, the widow of the late leader of SPLM/ SPLA, Dr. John Garang de Mabior recalled that  when her husband died, she told people not to cry.

“Only if the Comprehensive Peace Agreement is abrogated, I will cry,” she said.

Nyandeng praised nations which supported the struggling South Sudanese naming countries like Uganda, Kenya, Libya and Ethiopia.

She blamed tribalism and advised the President of South Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit to bring into the Government people who will deliver services not tribal representation.

Nyandeng said that marginalization in South Sudan still exists especially where there are smaller tribes.

She agitated for the 30% representation for women in public offices to be granted in the next lean government to be formed by the President.

Maria Gideon, a widow said the government have to provide for income generating activities for those made vulnerable by the war.

She pointed out that those still in the streets of Juba orphaned by the war lack education and that there is nothing to support them.

“The precise blood of those who died in the war should cement our national foundation,” she told the crowd.

Maria also called for establishment of a martyr’s scheme and that the next commemoration should be used for raising funds for them.

Meanwhile Solomon Nyambur, an orphan congratulated President Kiir and the people of South Sudan for attaining independence.

He said the day reminded South Sudanese of the difficult time when we lost our late hero Dr. John Garang, the father of the martyrs.

He appealed for representation of the orphans, widows and the disabled in the state and the national assemblies for their views to be heard.
