JUBA – The South Sudanese Students Union in Uganda has expressed gratitude to the Governor of Lakes State, Eng. Chol Tong Mayay over his support for the student activities.
The Union Finance Secretary, Bill Dhieu Manyang expressed gratitude to the Governor after receiving the support of 30,000 SSP to the Union following the request they made.
“I am happy with the governor of Lakes State for giving the Union 30,000 SSP to facilitate their activities. He has always been cooperative with the students’ union,” Bill said.
The union, a non-governmental organization of South Sudanese Students in Uganda was formed with an objective of uniting them.
Bill said he has received a total of 45,000 dollars from the Lake State governor and the governor of Western Bahr-El Ghazel State, Rizik Zakaria Hassan.
The Union last year received a sum of 17,000 SSP from the Lakes State Governor and this marked the second time for him to support the union.
Bill said that governor Hassan had approved 25,000 SSP but that due to the financial crisis in the country, 15,000 SSP was given and that the rest will be given later.
He also expressed his gratitude to the governor for the support he has rendered to the union.
The union finance secretary said that due to the shutting down of the oil production, they faced challenges though he said that they had received a lot of promises from some of the governors.
He added that they would be waiting for the response of the governors adding that they are a non-partisan organization and urged the government to support their programs.
Bill added that they intend to hold a conference as they look after over 15,000 South Sudanese students studying in Uganda.
The organization was formed years back in 2007 to look after the welfare of the students in Uganda.
