Arabs Have a History of Enslavement of South Sudanese not the Jews

The above statement follows the sarcastic remark made by the current Secretary General of the Arab league Nabil Al-Araby that it would be to the benefit of South Sudan to join the Arab League instead of establishing diplomatic relations with the state of Israel. “From my end I regret that South Sudan took this step [Kiir visiting Israel] and it is part of Sudan from my point of view,” Al-Araby said in an interview with Qatar news agency (QNA). See, he even does not recognize that South Sudan is an independent nation, a member of the United Nations, and enjoys all the rights and privileges of a sovereign state. Our Ministry of Foreign Affairs should ask the Secretary General of the Arab League to apologize to the independent Republic of South Sudan and its people for still considering our country as part of Sudan, a different independent nation. This is a typical Arab mentality of considering South Sudanese still descendants of people whose ancestors their ancestors had enslaved and sold in markets in Khartoum, Cairo, Istanbul (Turkey) and other Arab capitals. They do not need to be reminded that the present South Sudanese are a free people but mindful of their history related to the Arab people who during the era of the Ottoman Empire and before had heavily depopulated their ancestral homelands by raiding them for slaves and capturing those alive for sale in north Sudan, Egypt, Turkey, and the Arabian peninsula.  Al Araby must understand that the people of Israel had never raided, captured and sold any South Sudanese as a slave in an inhuman market as done by the Arabs. That was one of the principal reasons that Southern Sudanese had fought for their freedom for nearly fifty years, (1955-2005) not for twenty one years as some media outlets sometimes report, and got it through sacrifices of their lives and blood. The number of people who died for this independence which we are enjoying today can be put as four million plus. South Sudan, perhaps because of this foreign name, had never been part of the Sudan willingly except by force of the Arab invaders and Al-Araby must take this into consideration. It has been reported that “Al-Araby stressed that the Arab League has undertaken efforts and provided aid to South Sudan adding that they stand ready to give more aid because they need a lot of it.” This is not a nation to be bribed with aid in order to be a backbencher in slave masters’ club. And the Arab people must understand that none of their families or countries can be spared from the crime, guilt and blame of slave trade of South Sudanese in the last centuries. All Arab countries had participated in importing South Sudanese as slaves in the pre and post era of the Ottoman Empire. Historians who had studied and documented this ugly chapter of human tragedies say millions of people from this part of the world had perished along the slave routes which ran from lands south of the Sahara Desert and through this waterless, forestless and barren wastelands towards the south coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Al- Araby’s  aid of the Arab League which no South Sudanese is aware of if at all it was given might be a relief which is internationally given by nations of the world not only the Arabs who think they possess most of the wealth of the globe. In fact if Al-Araby does not know, individual families of South Sudanese whose ancestors had been captured by the Arabs as slaves are going to open a court case in the International Court of Justice to demand reparation amounting to (three) trillion Dollars and the Arab League and Turkey must be prepared to pay this amount not aid whose wealth had been raised through slave sales.

Arab League SG Says It’s in South Sudan’s Interest to Join the Bloc

ST

The Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Al-Araby expressed disappointment at the visit made by South Sudan president Salva Kiir to Israel last month and urged the newly established state to consider joining the pan-Arab bloc.  “Like Sudanese leaders in Khartoum mentioned, the relations between Israel and South Sudan has been going on for a while,” he added.

South Sudan, which seceded from the Arab-Muslim dominated north in July of last year, received covert support from the Jewish state during its war against the north which lasted for more than two decades.

Israel was quick to recognise the independence of the country and pledged to establish full diplomatic and economic relations with South Sudan. It named its envoy to Juba this week. During Kiir’s low-profile visit to Tel Aviv in December he met with senior Israeli officials including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Shimon Peres, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman and Defense Minister Ehud Barak.

The government in Khartoum expressed concern over the visit and suggested that it has an impact on its national security.

The Arab League SG called on South Sudan to apply for his organization’s membership.

He said that if South Sudan objectively considers the matter they will find that it is in the interest of their people to join the Arab League.
